Finding the right size is one of the most important steps in ordering your wood inlay tungsten ring. Because tungsten carbide is one of the hardest metals used in fine jewelry, tungsten rings cannot be resized the way traditional gold or silver rings can. Taking a few extra minutes to measure accurately now will save you time, hassle, and shipping costs later.
Why Sizing Matters More With Tungsten
Unlike softer metals, tungsten carbide's hardness makes it extremely durable, but it also means a jeweler cannot stretch, shrink, or reshape it after manufacturing. If your ring doesn't fit, the only option is an exchange for a different size, not a resize. That's why we strongly encourage you to confirm your size carefully before placing your order.
Method 1: Measure an Existing Ring
If you already own a ring that fits the finger you plan to wear your new ring on, this is often the most accurate method.
- Choose a ring that fits comfortably, not too loose, not too tight
- Place the ring on a flat surface
- Measure the inside diameter of the ring in millimeters, from one inner edge to the other
- Compare your measurement to a standard ring size chart to find your size
If you don't have a printed ring size chart on hand, most rings you already own that fit well can be compared directly against a printable sizing chart, widely available online, or brought to a local jeweler for a quick measurement.
Method 2: Measure Your Finger
If you don't have a ring to reference, you can measure your finger directly using a few simple tools.
What you'll need:
- A strip of paper or string
- A ruler
- A pen
Steps:
- Wrap the paper strip or string snugly around the base of your finger, where the ring will sit
- Mark the point where the strip overlaps itself
- Measure the length from the starting point to the mark using a ruler (in millimeters)
- Compare this measurement to a standard ring size chart to determine your size
Method 3: Visit a Local Jeweler
If you'd like the most precise measurement, many local jewelers offer free ring sizing using a professional sizing tool. This is a reliable option if you want extra confidence before ordering, especially since tungsten rings cannot be resized after purchase.
Tips for Accurate Sizing
- Measure at the end of the day. Fingers tend to be slightly larger later in the day due to normal fluctuation, so measuring in the evening often gives a more accurate everyday fit
- Consider temperature. Cold weather can cause fingers to shrink slightly, while heat can cause them to swell. Try to measure at a normal room temperature
- Account for knuckle size. If your knuckle is noticeably larger than the base of your finger, size for a comfortable fit over the knuckle so the ring can still be removed when needed
- When in doubt, size up slightly. A ring that's a touch loose is generally more comfortable and safer than one that's too tight, though we recommend following the sizing chart as closely as possible for the best fit
Comfort Fit Design
Many of our rings feature a comfort-fit interior, which is slightly rounded on the inside rather than flat. This design allows the ring to slide on and off more easily and generally fits more comfortably than a standard flat-band ring of the same size. If you're used to wearing a flat-band ring, keep in mind that a comfort-fit ring may feel slightly different, though most customers find it more comfortable for everyday wear.
